Top Tech Trends of 2023
POSTED: Jan 13, 20232023 promises to be a year to blow our minds with the innovations that began unraveling in the past two years, and we are not gatekeeping any of the tech trends we should see making a big shift in the way we live. Let’s dive into them one, by one.
AI
One trend that is expected to continue gaining traction in 2023 is the proliferation of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning. These technologies have already made their mark in a variety of industries, including healthcare, finance, and transportation, and they are only expected to become more widespread in the coming years. In particular, the development of natural language processing (NLP) technology, which enables computers to understand and generate human-like speech, is expected to lead to the creation of more intelligent and intuitive virtual assistants.
Lensa.ai, for example, an app that uses your selfies to turn them into avatars, was downloaded over 4 million times in a span of 5 days, according to Sensor Tower. In that same period of 5 days, 8 million dollars were spent by those who downloaded and used the app (I was one of those).
Our suggestion is to get involved in the conversation around this very revolutionary technology because what we can foresee, is the implementation of AI in your workplace coming soon!
We are keeping an eye on OpenAI’s ChatGPT which became available for the public to test out on November 30th of 2022, so stay tuned for the article we will dedicate entirely to this amazing technology.
IoT
Another trend to watch in 2023 is the growing popularity of the Internet of Things (IoT). IoT refers to the interconnected network of physical devices, vehicles, and other objects that are equipped with sensors and software that enable them to collect and exchange data. The proliferation of IoT devices is expected to lead to the creation of smart cities, which will use data collected from these devices to improve the efficiency and sustainability of urban environments.
Two examples of IoT that we currently use are:
- Connected Cars that can gather data from the accelerator, brakes, speedometer, odometer, wheels, and fuel tanks to monitor both driver performance and vehicle health.
- Connected Homes, like a thermostat, video monitors, and even security camera devices.
So if you happen to have Alexa installed at home, you should stay on top of the new capabilities it will be able to do to make your life easier.
Autonomous Cars
In the realm of transportation, autonomous vehicles are expected to become more common in 2023. These vehicles use a combination of sensors, cameras, and AI to navigate roads and highways without the need for a human driver. While fully autonomous vehicles are still in the early stages of development, it is expected that they will become more widespread in the coming years, potentially revolutionizing the way we think about transportation.
Just this week, Tesla launched the Cybertruck site and is taking orders as we speak. Now, we haven’t been able to ride one of these bad boys just yet, but we do know some stuff that you might not be aware of. One of the most impressive characteristics is that it accelerates from a standstill to 60 mph in a mildly entertaining 6.5 seconds! Our favorite feature is that the Cybertruck replaced the traditional steering wheel with a type of aircraft yoke.
Self-driving cars are still being perfected but are no longer a thing of the future; they have arrived.
The Metaverse
Another trend to keep an eye on in 2023 is the continued development of virtual and augmented reality (VR and AR) technologies. These technologies have already found several practical applications, including in the fields of education, healthcare, and entertainment. As VR and AR technology continues to improve, it is expected that it will be used in an even greater number of industries and applications.
The biggest effort ever made to speed up the launch of a functional Metaverse was made by Facebook. They invested over 25 billion dollars a year. That is over 250 billion dollars spent over 10 years, making it the biggest multi-year spending program in history!
Just to make a comparison here, the iPhone’s investment was 3.6 billion from 2004-2007!
According to Zuckerberg, we should expect the Metaverse to become mainstream in less than 10 years. We will be here to update you as soon as we get another scoop.
Healthcare
There are several medical trends that are expected to emerge in 2023:
Personalized medicine: This trend involves the use of genomic data to tailor medical treatment to an individual's unique genetic profile. By analyzing a person's DNA, healthcare providers can identify genetic risk factors for certain conditions and tailor treatment accordingly.
Telemedicine: The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the adoption of telemedicine, and it is expected that this trend will continue in 2023. Telemedicine involves the use of technology, such as video conferencing and remote monitoring devices, to provide healthcare services remotely. This trend allows patients to access medical care without having to physically visit a doctor's office, which is especially important for those living in rural areas or for those who have difficulty traveling.
Artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare: AI is expected to play a larger role in healthcare in 2023. It can be used to analyze large amounts of data, such as electronic health records, to identify patterns and make recommendations for patient care. AI can also be used to assist with tasks such as diagnosing medical images and predicting patient outcomes.
3D printing in medicine: 3D printing has the potential to revolutionize the medical field by allowing the creation of customized medical devices and prosthetics. It can also be used to create patient-specific models for surgical planning and training.
Wearable technology: Wearable technology, such as fitness trackers and smartwatches, can collect data on a person's health and activity levels. This data can be used to identify potential health issues and track progress over time.
Gene editing: Gene editing techniques, such as CRISPR, allow scientists to make precise changes to an individual's DNA. While still in the early stages of development, gene editing has the potential to be used to treat a wide range of genetic diseases.
Quantum Computers
Finally, quantum computing is expected to make significant strides in the coming years. Quantum computers use quantum bits, or qubits, to perform calculations, and they have the potential to perform certain tasks much faster than classical computers. While quantum computers are still in the early stages of development, they have the potential to revolutionize fields such as finance, drug discovery, and materials science.
IBM is set to launch The Condor, the world’s first universal quantum computer with more than 1,000 qubits! “As of February 2021, there are over 20 devices on the service, six of which are freely available to the public. This service can be used to run algorithms and experiments and explore tutorials and simulations around what might be possible with quantum computing”.
Refurbished Tech
More and more people are becoming aware of the importance of switching to a more sustainable way of life, including the purchase of technology. Great strides have been made by many companies, and Apple is a great example of one.
On October 25th of last year, the company began working with suppliers to be able to become decarbonized by 2030. This is huge because it will mitigate the mining of metals needed to create the devices, and the amount of e-waste discarded that has become one of the worst hazards our planet faces.
Loop is proud to be able to join their efforts by providing top-quality, certified-refurbished Apple devices; helping the world understand the importance of reusing instead of buying into new trends that tend to grow old in less than a year. This pattern of consumption is dangerous and has a direct impact on climate change.
We were able to successfully launch the iPhone 13 models, proving once more that quality is highly regarded by our customers. Our collections are put through rigorous tests before getting certified. You can still get your hands on a pristine iPhone 13 Pro Max with Loop, since Apple stopped selling the model, late last year, to make way for their new iPhone 14. You can read about how these two beautiful devices compare to each other, here.
We want to thank you for adopting a more sustainable lifestyle and encourage you to continue to be ambassadors of the Loop way!
We can all be part of the solution in the way we consume in 2023!
